• HHANE members

HHANE membership is open to anyone interested in supporting the harness racing industry. We have many members who do not live in Massachusetts or even New England. If you are interested in supporting harness racing, you are welcome to join! While membership is open year-round we encourage you to join as soon as possible to take full advantage of membership benefits. 

IMPORTANT: HHANE membership is for the current racing season only. The membership year begins January 1st and expires each year on the last day of the year (December 31st). To remain an ACTIVE MEMBER, you MUST renew by submitting a new application with your $50 annual dues before May 31st of the new year. Although that gives you about 5 months to comply, for your own protection, you don’t want to wait until the last minute to be covered if you plan to race at the start of the meet in April.

Active membership is open to owners, trainers, drivers, and MGC-licensed stable employees (i.e., grooms/caretakers) .  HHANE does not offer a stable membership category.  Associate membership is open to anyone not in these categories who would like to support harness racing.

HHANE primarily uses email to provide information to members. If you have unsubscribed from our email list and wish to resubscribe, or you’ve never subscribed before, please email us to be added to the list.

• Free sulky insurance up to $1000 (no wheel coverage) upon registration

Associate members (anyone who wishes to support HHANE and the harness racing industry who is not an owner, trainer, driver, or groom (licensed stable employee by MGC) racing at Plainridge) receive the following benefits:

• Lodging discount at the Comfort Inn Express on Route 1, Plainville, near Plainridge (upon presentation of your membership card).

• Invitation to attend Annual Awards program.

• Continual promotion of the harness racing industry with our legislators.

Two types of insurance programs are available as benefits of HHANE membership:

• Sulky Accident Insurance (free without wheel coverage for a maximum coverage of $1000 upon registration). Additional sulky accident insurance coverage is available. Visit the sulky insurance page for further information.

• Third Party Liability insurance through our association with HHI (Harness Horsemen International)

Massachusetts law requires worker compensation insurance for anyone racing at Plainridge who has full time or occasional help regardless of status (employee or independent contractor). For further information, please see our Links page.

The Retirement Savings Plan (RSP), approved by the MGC, is a benefit available to all eligible Active HHANE member trainers and drivers.  The deadline for participating in the RSP is May 31st each year.  Any participation applications and beneficiary designation forms received after the yearly deadline will be held for processing the following year.

Remember to have your application document notarized before mailing to HHANE (P.O. Box 1811, Plainville, MA 02762). When completing the Beneficiary form, please provide complete address, relationship, and social security number information for each beneficiary you designate.
